Taiwan International Science Fair

Michael Peters from Glenlyon Norfolk School in Victoria and Nicholas Randall from Penticton Secondary School in Penticton, both Grade 12 students, have returned home big winners from the Taiwan International Science Fair, held February 1st to 7th in Taipei, Taiwan.(March 2, 2010) Click here for more.

National Acheivements

Science Fair Students Awarded 31 Medals and $137,700 at National Canada-Wide Science Fair
Seventy-four students across British Columbia and the Yukon won a total of 64
awards at this year’s Canada-Wide Science Fair held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from May 9-17, 2009. Participating in a variety of categories from earth and environmental sciences to engineering and automotive, the students brought back 5 gold, 11 silver, 15 bronze, 15 honorable mentions, 13 special awards, and 65 scholarships for a total of $137,700 in scholarships, awards and prize money. Team Canada – Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2009

Four British Columbia students are among sixteen of Canada’s brightest high school scientists that have been selected to represent Canada at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) May 10-16 in Reno, Nevada. Intel ISEF is the world’s largest science fair.

Team Canada-ISEF was selected by a distinguished panel of 15 university faculty, industry researchers, educators and Team Canada alumni through a competitive national selection process that began in October and concluded Sunday as part of Youth Science Month.

Last year, Team Canada-ISEF fared extremely well, bringing home numerous awards
including one best in category award, seven grand awards and eight special awards.
The British Columbia students are:

    How Anti-epileptic drugs affect the growth of neurons within the intact developing brain
  • Taneille Johnson, Fort St. John, BC
    Defining Functional Interactions in Naturally Occuring Telomerase Mutants
  • Juno Jung & Jonathan Zhou, Langley & Coquitlam, BC
    Probabilistic Evolution in Dynamic Equilibrium
